It's The Animal In Me

On This Day In History
2001: Icelandic pop star Bjork makes a splash at the Oscars

Quote Of The Day
"They wrote abou it like I was trying to wear a black Armani and got it wrong. Like I was trying to fit in. Of course I wasn't trying to fit in."
(Bjork)

Bonus Quotes Of The Day
"There is this convention of female glamour and female celebrity and desire that gets played out through the red carpet and through these beautiful gowns, but Björk was literally dressed like a swan and she laid these eggs, and there was something in there about femininity and ideas of nurture, nature and fertility. I think people did not want to associate that with the red carpet."
(Caroline Stevenson, Head of Cultural and Historical Studies at London College of Fashion)

"Ugh! That dress is so last season!"
(Steve Martin, host of the 2001 Academy Awards)

"The girl should be put in an asylum."
(Joan Rivers)

So Bjork went to the Academy Awards Ceremony dressed as a swan. Here's me on on a 22 kilometer run dressed as a spider.

One of the positive results of Covid-19 is that we have been weened off of celebrity culture. Why on Earth should we care what awards these attention seekers present to themselves? The Oscars is becoming increasingly irrelevant, although it has been to me ever since films like Star Wars, Blade Runner, Terminator and Alien were so criminally overlooked.

Anyway, all power to Bjork for not wanting to fit in with all those phonies. Let's enjoy the performance of a true artist.
