Nicky and her Nikon

Sunset at Luskentyre beach, Harris, Scotland

Although the clocks went forward we still got the same hours of sleep last night - 5 hours in my case which is not nearly enough! Up at 5.30 am and on the beach at Scarista by 6.15am. It was a beautiful morning with soft pinks in the sky, we kept spinning around not sure which was the best direction to shoot as they were both equally beautiful. The first extra was taken after the sun had risen when the light was still soft.

Back at the hotel I opened my Mothers Day cards that had been snuck into my suitcase by Gavin. I was feeling sad not to be home for Mothering Sunday today, and so enjoyed having cards to open.

It was a glorious day today - azure blue skies and sunshine and warm at 17C. Gorgeous when you are on holiday but not great for photography. After breakfast we drove to Hushinish beach which would could put any Caribbean beach to shame. I took a few photos  and while it is a stunning location it doesn't really work for photography, so I sat on the grassy bank above the beach just soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the beautiful view. Bliss! See the second extra of this beach.

We went via the hotel for a toilet stop before we moved on to Seilebost beach. It was too bright and sunny to get dramatic shots during the day but we photographed the patterns in the water made by the currents (last extra). We had lunch in the sunshine overlooking Seilebost beach, it was quite wonderful sitting there with that view in front of us and only the sheep for company. I never realised how many sheep there are on these islands, they are everywhere. Driving back to the hotel last night in the dark we had to be careful as the sheep sleep on the side of the road, presumably as the tar is warm. There are no fences keeping them off the roads and drivers have to respect them.

After lunch we drove to the most southern point of Harris to Rodel to see St Clements church, a late 15th century church built for the MacLeods, it is quaint and quite lovely. It was so warm and as no shops were open, being a Sunday, so we decided to go back to the hotel for tea and to wait for the light to fade as it was too harsh for photos

We went out again at 6pm to photograph the sunset at Luskentyre beach, where I took this main image. It was another late evening as the sunset is now an hour later due to the clocks changing. We got back to the hotel just before 9pm and had another late supper.

Today was our last full day. Tomorrow morning we are up at 5.30am again for the sunrise, but have to get back in time for breakfast and to check out by 9am to get to Stornoway for our flight to Edinburgh. Thank you for continuing to look at my journal while I have been just too busy to keep up with other journals.
