The saga of the fridges

About a month ago I blipped about our local Council cleanup. The instructions from Council clearly said that refrigerators would not be picked up. Nevertheless, a few optimists in the district decided to try it on. One of those was a boutique guesthouse opposite the golf course. It's a nice little guesthouse and the verge in front of it is fully occupied by agapanthus (see top photo). When the guesthouse put out the items for pickup they placed them on the verge on the opposite side of the road. That seemed like a sensible thing to do.

We anticipated that the Council would not take away the fridges. We were surprised, however, to see that the Council left everything in place (see middle photo). This eyesore has been there for a couple of weeks. We thought it was a tad pedantic and unfair of Council not to take away the items that fitted its criteria. We assumed that the guesthouse would complain to Council about being treated in such a way.

I had my first walk today in a few days and I was relieved to see that most of the items had been removed from opposite the guesthouse. However, true to its word, the Council has left the refrigerators on the side of the road (see lower photo). Well, the guesthouse, like all of us, was clearly warned. I wonder how long it will take them to remove the two fridges. I will report back later.
