First Day of Ramadan

(4.4.22)
Dubai (the UAE) and a few other GCC countries start the Holy Month of Ramadan today! Most other Islamic countries are starting tomorrow. I was up super early because we have two appointments before noon in the same part of town.

First off was a long-overdue visit to my cousin who has recently become a mum. It was good to finally link up with her, her mum, and her husband. G took a picture to record the occasion.

We then had to whizz to the other side of the E44 to meet with Jessica at her local mall - Springs Souk. It's the first time we've met her on her patch. We had bought her coffee beans from El Salvador, and I wanted to deliver them asap. We had a good chat. Then, walking back to the car, we came across this Party shop with a Ramadan display in their window.

Ramadan is supposed to be a time of reflection and austerity, so the fact that the Party Shop has balloons is just bizarre. Like so many things, the world is changing the significance and meaning of religious events.

Home for the rest of the day until the landlord's rep said he was in his office in the evening, so at 9 PM, we were there! We had to wait nearly thirty minutes while he finished another meeting, but it is a relief to finally sort out the rent for the year. We celebrated with a falooda and fresh orange juice!!
