Hereford Cathedral

Today we finally made it down to Herefordshire for our long-awaited weekend away that was cancelled last month.
We dropped the Little Misses off at Nana and Papa's and then took the scenic route down to Hereford. Mr K and I do like a tootle!
It's such a treat to be in the car and able to chat, and listen to the radio, and not answer millions of questions about how much further it is. Bliss!!!
It's also a complete novelty to just be able to stop and jump out without spending hours getting children and all their associated stuff out! Wonderful!
Obviously I love the Little Misses but oh my goodness it's a treat to spend the odd day or two without them!
We had a lovely mooch around Hereford Cathedral, then some cake and tea in the tearoom, we are complete cheapskates and decided not to spend £12 on going to see the Mappa Mundi. I've seen it before and Mr K had a good look at the poster in the shop!!
We had a wander around the town instead and found an amazing little museum - The Old House - built in 1621 and furnished and set up as it would have been then.
It was such a great, unexpected find!
There was a bed upstairs with a mattress on top of ropes strung between the frame. Apparently - in the old days - you pulled on the ropes to keep them taut and the bed comfy. This is the origin of the phrase "sleep tight"
There was a Jacobean baby walker! And my favourite thing of all - a dog flap cut in the master bedroom door! They might have been rich and powerful merchants but they still had a soft spot for the dog!!
We had a browse in a couple of charity shops for new books to read and got a great haul!
Mr K popped into WHSmiths as he'd forgotten to buy an anniversary card and then we headed off for our hotel.
Halfway between Hereford and Abergavenny it was in the middle of nowhere. Fantastic!
We had afternoon tea almost as soon as we got there and then spent a very relaxing couple of hours sitting in the lounge reading and chatting, in front of a roaring log fire. Bliss!!
It was very hard to drag ourselves up to our wonderful room to do a bit more relaxing before dinner!
Dinner was scrummy and I had to practically be winched on to the bed as it was a good three foot off the ground and I'm not blessed in the height department!!
Mr K did take a photo of me earlier taking a running jump to get onto it but I think that's best left to the imagination.....
Such a lovely relaxing day. Reminds me why I married Mr K!
