Happy people

I have missed singing for the last two years. But at least I got to go to the final choir concert of the season. And it was wonderful! The music was Latin American with the main work the Misa Tango by Bacalov, an Argentinian composer. A mass sung in Spanish to tango rhythms. Also featured: a couple of movements from Palmeri's infectiously lively Misa Tango, and a piece specially composed for the choir by Gabriel Sivak, an Argentinian composer who is a friend of Florence, with lyrics in Quechua.

And for the first time in years we could afford soloists, a pianist, and an accordionist. Plus it's the first time we've managed to put on a concert with Florence since she became our new director in 2019.  No wonder everyone looked blissfully happy.

As the bishop banned us from the cathedral in Carcassonne at a very late stage, Monique did a sterling job in swiftly finding a church in Carcassonne large enough to accommodate us. It's a modern concrete construction in the midst of blocks of council flats, but the interior is quite attractive and the acoustics very good.

Afterwards, we headed for the nearby community centre and the obligatory bunfight. Since I now have an oven, I baked some millionaire's shortbread -- happily it went down a storm, as there was a lot of it and I didn't want to take it home. A joyful occasion -- it was great to see everyone, and very clear that the change of conductor has really given the choir a boost. Not that anyone was unhappy with William, far from it, but Florence is very different and has also brought in some new younger members.

I think I should have taken the little-used Nikon with me -- the light was difficult and my photos were very noisy, but here's a small album.
