Just a pile of stones...?!

I passed this construction area during my morning walk which took me past Killingworth Lake. It’s part of  a “Spirit of North Tyneside” initiative which aims to construct some physical memorials as residents of the area reflect on the impact of the Covid pandemic. The idea is to create areas for contemplation and reflection in several parts of the borough, in areas linked to the historic waggonways.

The memorials will all be based around the theme of a compass, created in hard landscaped paving with seating. The word “compass” apparently derives from two Latin words, “com” (meaning “together”) and “passus” (meaning “pace” or “step”): the idea is that this can mean “journey together”, which is what we’ve done during the pandemic. Each compass will have a unique design representing the local area.

There’s more about the plans here. I’ll blip this one again when it’s finished.
