The Alexandra Bridge

After a few days of doing my own writing, today I mainly read someone else’s. I’ve started reading a draft PhD thesis, and it’s already proved to be very enjoyable. I can see that JHC has done an enormous amount of work and is *nearly* there. The last push.

It was raining when we got up this morning, so plans to go forth were put back until later. We got out mid morning, and went to Dornoch where we had planned to do a walk on the beach. In fact, neither of us was massively taken by Dornoch, that seems to be dominated by the golf, and by the holiday parks, although ironically, or perhaps typically, the holiday parks cannot be seen from the golf clubhouse…. We walked out towards the beach and had a coffee at the Highland Larder, but that was about the extent of it.

Afterwards, we needed to head into Tain to get a few supplies and fill up the car with petrol. So we headed down to the waterside and walked along there, doing a little circuit called the Plaids circuit. It included crossing the Alexandra Bridge. I do love a pedestrian suspension bridge. It has lots of photographic potential.

Finally, we popped along to Meikle Ferry, which seems reasonably scenic, although there isn’t really anywhere to walk.

After an afternoon of working, we walked down to the shoreline before dinner. It was probably the nicest evening we have had since we’ve been here. Sunny and warm. The river which passes under the cottage windows is, however, quite low. It obviously hasn’t been raining hard enough. Long may that continue.
