A day in the life

Erosion

On this windy and chilly north wind day I went to the west coast of my island to see the eroding beach, somehow erosion has been particularly effective this year. Imagine my island, Öland, as a limestone slab, slightly  tilted west to east. In some places the limestone wall is visible, in certain places it rises dramatically, in others, like this place, there are only hills of sand. This particular place is called "sandy mountains", a local joke, since nothing on the island is higher than fifty metres. This slope is no more than ten metres high and used to have a well visited sandy/gravel beach. The sea has taken a lot of it this year and, as you can see, the grill place isn't  useable anymore. In the pine forest up the cliffs to the left, a music festival called "Öland roots" is happening every July. The camping young people will have to be careful when going for their morning swim this year, the stairs are gone and trees are falling down the slope.
