Lemon Drops

Like spring flowers male goldfinches bloom during the month of April, transforming from drab to bright. We have so many here they look like lemon drops hanging in the trees. Their breeding season is later than most songbirds, beginning in June, and they’ll remain colorful until their Fall molt • Per Naturally Curious by Mary Holland: “In New England, April experiences a greater degree of transformation than any other month of the year. An explosion of sights and sounds takes place from beneath the forest floor to the top of the forest canopy.” How exciting! I think it will become more noticeable once the rain stops! • We woke to heavy rain and it’s continued all day long. Newt isn’t impressed being stuck inside with her boring brothers (or Moms) but I’ve promised her the next few days will be perfect for more outdoor adventures • I saw another Northern Flicker in the yard today! No pictures though • As I wish you all Peace & Love my heart weighs heavy for Ukraine.
