HIgh Bridge, Grub Street Cutting

Every time we are along the Shroppie ( Shropshire Union Canal ) this bridge Intrigues me.  Obviously, the telegraph pole is no longer in use, but what an example of thinking outside the box when you have a problem.  The block on which the "telegraph pole" stands was inserted to carry the pole..

Grub Street Cutting is one of the deep very steep sided cuttings on the Shroppie.  You have to marvel at the effort required to produce such a cutting when all you had were men, horses, and perhaps some back powered for a little judicious blasting.  The embankments which follow the cuttings were probably made easier by having all the "waste" excavated in the cutting.
