Canada Goose, Reflected

Back to Amherst's Rail Trail where we had the downy woodpecker on Sunday. Not many birds around; this was the best shot I had--not my favorite subject, since these geese are very common, and are sometimes a nuisance in parks and on lawns.

I spent most of my time staked out at a very visible hole in a large dead tree where a pileated woodpecker had been seen for a couple of days (yesterday by a substantial bird club group--Marylee was along but not me). He didn't show for me, but I shall return :)

The trail's full name is the Norwottuck Rail Trail; we usually park at Station Road in Amherst (see the map) and walk northwest toward Hadley and Northampton.
