Mary Lyon Hall, Mt. Holyoke College

Mary Lyon was a pioneer in American women's education. In 1837 she founded Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. and was its principal for 12 years. My wife Marylee attended it as an undergraduate--a wonderful experience.

This impressive building, at least symbolically, is the most important building at the college. On a main road in the town and under still-bare trees, this image can give little sense of the campus's beauty--this one is perhaps better.
