Coast to Coast #2

A much more leisurely day for me while Mr P walked from Ennerdale to Patterdale, a mere 23 miles with 1800m of climb. I had promised my elderly mother I’d send her a postcard everyday so she could share our adventure and of course I’d forgotten to buy one yesterday.
 
Firstly, Lorton village shop for a postcard and a coffee that was drunk in the sun in the beautiful gardens alongside what used to be the first Jennings brewery before it moved to Cockermouth. The building is now the Village Hall. View also of the famous Lorton Yew
2ndly, a short walk to find a Holy Well but that was thwarted by a field of frisky, curious young cows/ bullocks
3rd, Threlkeld Mining Museum and train ride - Featured Blip. There were not a lot of visitors and I enjoyed a happy 20 mins chatting to the guard on the train, getting my own personal history of the quarry  talk and discussing the history of railways in Cumbria
4th Short walk along a stretch of the Keswick to Threlkeld disused railway foot path admiring old bridges and orange tip butterflies.
5th Threlkeld Coffee Shop for lunch looking over the valley, with the quarry nestled in the foothills of the Dodds.
6th Aire Force waterfalls. I’ve been therefore and was dismayed to find the lower ancient bridge has been wrecked by a fallen tree. But a pleasant walk up and down the valley
7th Glenridding to buy a postcard for Mum
Finally Patterdale to collect Mr P and whisk him off to the Brothers Water Inn for dinner, B&B
