The Show Must Go On

Arriving for this afternoon’s rehearsal, we learnt that the replacement cast member we acquired on Thursday has now had to give back word as the professional production she was also involved in was going to clash with our dates. At the point this picture was taken, we had all but decided that there was nothing to do except cancel the production. Naturally, given the hard work that had already gone into this play, we were all disappointed. And let’s not forget the financial cost, which was not insignificant.
And then, like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, a plan began to form. Sue was familiar with the role, having been reading it in for many weeks, she just didn’t think she was suitable for the character as it was written. But with a bit of rewriting there was no reason why the character could not subtly change without affecting the overall plot.
And so we carry on. We overcame many logistical nightmares with last years productions so I’m sure we can get this one over the line with the same spirit of everyone pulling together.
From what I saw of this afternoon’s rehearsal (especially the bits I’m not in!) it’s shaping up to be a very slick little murder mystery. Several deaths, characters who might not be what they seem and a house with secrets to hide should keep the audience guessing until the very end. Though the clues are there if you pay close attention…
