Wide-on-Wednesday: Architecture

For Bobsblips's Widwed challenge today I've chosen to blip the telephone exchange at Killingworth New Town on the edge of Newcastle. The New Town was built in the 1960s adjacent to old Killingworth Village: happily it was done in such a way that the Village maintained its distinct character and community spirit

I've often wondered if the exchange is still in use, but as far as I can tell it is indeed still used for its original purpose. I thought its slightly odd design would fit the bill for the challenge.

The exchange is only a few hundred yards from Killingworth Lake , where a lot of my wildfowl blips have been taken over the years. The (15 acre) Lake itself was formed during the clearing up of derelict pit sites in the 1960s when the New Town was being constructed.

PS My Editor and I have just had a really fun time looking through the Silly Saturday blips from last weekend. Thanks to everyone who joined in this challenge in memory of the lovely Admirer - I'm sure she'd have chuckled as much as we did! They were all great, we had a real problem choosing 5 for hearts and 5 for Honourable Mentions, but here's our choices (in no particular order):

Hearts:
59 with her "Chicken or the Egg" blip
Ingeborg with her lazy Couch Monkeys
H0tamer with the crazily parked car
Marlieske with a rather fabulously silly Tin Man
Lozarithm with a Skeleton Selfie (no doubt the result of dieting too aggressively!)

Honorary Mentions:
Suejay50 who surely couldn't have really been loving to be by the seaside...?!
Madwill who found himself on the Dark Side of the Moon!
BikerBear who spotted some worse-for-wear Doughnut Twins
Johndeere who was having a very Bad Hair Day
Lesmark who found a fabulously silly Gargoyle

The next hosted Silly Saturday will be on the first Saturday of next month (June 4th): if you'd like to have a go at hosting it (it's super fun!) then do let me know either by a blip comment on my journal or by email to davidcblipper@gmail.com.
