A time for everything

First kayak outing of the year!

Thursday
Today promised to be a beautiful day, so we decided it would be a good occasion to take the kayaks out. They have spent the winter suspended from the garage roof, via a sort of pulley system. We have church choir a Thursday evening, so we didn’t want to go too far, so we settled on Stonelick Lake, about 40 minutes drive away, actually not too far from where we were yesterday. Being a week day, it was quite quiet at the lake, and when we first arrived, we didn’t see any other kayakers out, though we were joined by a few once we were out on the water. There were a couple of families with young children on the beach, and a couple of guys fishing, and that was about it. We saw quite a few herons soaring low across the lake from time to time, and swallows swooping low across the water, and one turtle. It was lovely to be out on the water again, enjoying the sunshine, carefully covered with sunscreen, and wearing our hats of course!
Mike, our choir director had been missing for the last few practices, as he’d had shoulder surgery, to reattach a tendon, but he was back today, his right arm and shoulder in a supportive sling, and thus conducting left handed. He seems in good spirits, but won’t know until the end of the month, when he sees the specialist again, how successful it’s been, since the damage was worse than the surgeon had previously thought. We jus have three of four more Sundays to sing, before we break for the summer.
