Female Broad Bodied Chaser

There are hundreds, literally, of dragonflies coming out of the local ponds right now.

From the early morning discovery of the newly hatched damselfly and her exuvia in the garden pond to the dozens of battling dragons over at the larger pond across the road, we didn't have to go far to find dragons today.

Of course, photographing them is another thing... the Hubble proved too slow at focusing and the minimum focal distance is measured in furlongs, so I went back with the 100-400mm this afternoon.

This female broad bodied dragon was laying her eggs in the borders while above her, her blue bodied suitors waged war with each other for the chance to do it all again.
