BBOWT

We belong to our local Wildlife Trust. It's quite a mouthful: Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust, known to its friends as "bee-bout". Recently we contributed to their fund-raising to buy Luggershall Meadows, a stretch of farmland which adjoins other BBOWT property. The Trust is keen on joining up its parcels of land, to give critical mass for some species that need a wide area to roam and to provide wildlife corridors so small populations don't get isolated. This morning we went to look at the new land. It was intensively farmed for beef until the end of last year so is lush grassland with few other plants and flowers. The Trust have ambitious plans to greatly increase the number of plant, insect and bird species and introduce wetlands, but it will be many years' work.
