Being Inbetween

I learned about this exhibition, Being Inbetween  in the UK from blip…it’s a wonderful project at Impressions Gallery in Bradford by artist photographer Carolyn Mendelsohn with 90 portraits of girls aged 10-12 ….and of course it made me want to add granddaughter Fiona, who is 12.   I must say SHE wasn’t at all interested in it but she agreed to let me take this without any planning or discussion.  It is what it is.   We were so pleased we got to spend a little time with her today when she came here with her Dad and Maple  (extra)  for a couple hours so her Dad could, among other things  help fix up our tv to play through our better stereo speakers with a very inexpensive little part and an old system.  (it was a success!)

I didn’t get the chance to ask all the exhibition questions which I found very interesting, especially the way they changed over the 6 years it took to gather the portraits. ( She's like her Dad. I got 3 questions a day...)  But Fiona is 12, trying to get used to living in 2 homes, with Mom and the cats, and Dad and the dog, finishing 6th grade with some teachers she doesn’t like,  ( Choir is her favorite class.) And still living with many social restrictions due to covid.   Not an easy time to grow up.   Her “hobbies” are playing video games (she’s never without that phone) and also reading.   (grateful for that combination.,)   Today she’d like to be a second grade teacher and also a writer and illustrator of books. ( This changes.)   Her “likes, dislikes, hopes, fears,  and wishes “will have to come later…

We’ll take what we get these days….they’ll be up to the island this summer…
