Red columbine

Friday
After last nights thunder storms and heavy rains, today was dry, but when we went cycling along the Little Miami trail early afternoon, there were signs of the storms, with some debris and drying out muddy areas. The river was quite a raging torrent, and coffee coloured. I just managed 13 miles today, while Roger did more. My blip was taken along the bike trail - a Red Columbine, one of quite a large clump, which made a lovely picture, with the red and yellow flowers.
In the evening we were at Music Hall, for a May Festival chorus concert. It was just one long modern work, El Niño, an opera-oratorio by the contemporary American composer John Adams. It was originally premiered in December 2000, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. It can be regarded as a sort of modern day Messiah, retelling the Christmas story. Besides the Bible, the text draws upon various sources such as the Wakefield Mystery Plays, Martin Luther’s Christmas sermon, as well as various poems. The work is scored for soprano, mezzo soprano and baritone soloists and a trio of counter tenors in addition to the choir, and a childrens choir ( the May Festival Youth Chorus) which comes in at the end. It was certainly different, and wouldn’t be everybody’s cup of tea, but I did enjoy it, finding it moving and dramatic.
