Chill

We dithered about what to do today given the uncertain weather forecast, although it started brighter than we’d expected. Ended up going down to Leith for a wander, and started with brunch at Toast. We were lucky to walk into a great table straight away despite it being really busy, and enjoyed delicious mounds of various good things on toast, whilst A had shakshuka which was delicious. Suitably fortified we wandered around the market, bought some veg and kombucha and tempted by the fresh pasta but deciding to make that ourselves. It was pretty chilly by then…with a cold wind, so we came home to get warmer and instead of going back out we ended up having a very lazy afternoon…A even went back to bed for a nap.
Out to an early supper at East Coast in Musselburgh, and although our mixed fish and seafood grill was very fresh it was a little bland…needed more seasoning somehow without overwhelming it.
Back to go to Red Ellen at the Lyceum. Another marathon three hours, and some interesting bits, but ultimately could have been done better in an hour we decided. All about Ellen Wilkinson, a Labour MP in the 1930s and 40s, and her struggles to unite the left and make progress in a man’s world. The lead actor was very good but it just didn’t work as a (long!) play. The theatre was at best half full, I fear the reviews had affected the audience. Hey ho, you win some you lose some! We came home speculating how it must be for the cast when they must surely feel it’s not really working but you have a lot of performances to do.
