Lisbon Trams

Could have done Lisbon churches or Lisbon bookshops, both of which featured today, but loved this photo, taken while hanging on for dear life with the other hand. Got the tram because appeared to be the only form of transport from where I was, outside the Estrela Basilica. Jumped on, and then jumped off (off it goes, in extra) when realised I was near my favourite bookshop, supposedly the oldest continually functioning one in the world. Far more satisfying than the famous one in Porto (in the extra) - a lot of books, for instance, comfy places to sit, and a little café. Please, if you're planning a bestseller, can you not write it there?

Actually, will add some extras for those who are interested (which I´ll delete later), of the Basilica, which you can see from all over the city, built by order of Queen Maria I to fulfill a promise when she at last produced an heir, and looking up into the main dome; it's really quite lovely inside. And of the front window of the bookshop - look who's featuring!

Gratefuls:
- all these days to see parts of Lisbon I'd not seen before
- coming out from underground into a square filled with jacarandas in bloom
- the Jardim da Estrela, a stunning garden in front of the basilica, with ponds and statues, all sorts of trees, a café - designed by an Englishman. The English certainly know how to make lovely gardens.
