Colourful Porto

Three highlights of the day: the port wine tasting at the Porto Cruz wine lodge - main is from there to Porto on the far bank, and with some of the rabelos, the traditional boats used to bring the wine in barrels down the Douro river from the vineyards to the lodges at Gaia.

And then, waiting in the queue to go into "the prettiest bookshop in the world", and that was after paying five euros each for a ticket - redeemable against a book (though couldn't put them together for one book); ended up buying three books for the kids. It is a lovely building, but not really how I like a bookshop - too many tourists taking photos and not enough books, though the ones there are gorgeous. Can't imagine where JK Rowling sat to write Harry Potter - must have been different then, no seats now. Extra of the kids at the top of the famous red staircase - weren't supposed to take photos, so was a bit surreptitious, even though everyone else was snapping away. They had fun finding the smiley emoji on the recently restored stained glass ceiling.

And then, a return visit to the O Gato Comeu-te a Língua from yesterday for more crepes (savoury this time), hot dogs, and waffles.

Gratefuls:
- a good last day together
- rain holding off when we needed it to
- almost finished reading The Runaways, by Elizabeth Goudge; left the last chapter for you to read to them, Julia, and returning the book to you; it's yours after all!
