Sgwarnog: In the Field

Long

At the start of a week off I’m back down in Wales for a couple of days. In Denbigh there are lots of flags and red, green and white bunting up as the Urdd Eisteddfod is being hosted here over the next few days. People are flocking in from all over Wales.

These Long-tailed Tits were part of a flock on the embankment of the old railway line, down by the river. The Sand Martins had returned to the river bank nearby.

Later, Brother #2 gave me a lift up to the car park at Moel Arthur, where I mooched about looking for butterflies and moths. Green-veined White, Orange-tip, Small Copper, Small Heath, Common Carpet and Grey Gorse Piercer (extra) were among my definitive sightings. Stonechat (extra), and Wheatear were about.

I then walked back down the hill via Glyn Arthur (extra) to my brother’s, escorted by a Buzzard and Great Spotted Woodpecker for part of the route, with long views back across the Vale of Clwyd, with the Snowdonia mountains in the far distance (extra).
