A garden, a fishpond and a lighthouse

The forecast for our last day in Galloway was good, sunshine all day long, which was great as we'd planned to visit Logan Botanic Garden which is around an hour away on the Rhins of Galloway, the long peninsula which ends at the Mull of Galloway, Scotland's most southerly point.

Oddly it was raining lightly when we arrived and so I began walking round the garden wearing a waterproof and a woolly hat! The rain soon stopped and the rest of the day was great, blue skies with huge white clouds. Logan was voted the UK's best garden in 2021 and is spectacular, with a huge collection of exotic and tender plants - I could have spent several days there! See - https://www.rbge.org.uk/visit/logan-botanic-garden/

In early afternoon we drove south a very short distance to the Logan Fishpond, a strange deep pool in the cliffs where fish were raised for the local laird - it's one of my extras today and you can read about it here - http://www.logan-fishpond.com/

The final visit of the day was to the lighthouse at the Mull of Galloway, that most southerly point - another extra. Beautiful quiet roads, verges full of flowers and wonderful skies! I couldn't go up the lighthouse as by the time I decided to do so there was a half-hour wait. The views from the Mull were spectacular!

Then a 90 minute drive back to Gatehouse-of-Fleet and thinking about a meal out at the local pub!

(Well we looked up all four hotels in the town, discounted one as being too expensive, found the middle two empty as they have no bar or restaurant staff and the last one overflowing - no space! So we bought some pies and spuds at the local Spar and will make do back at the house!)
