A time for everything

Early evening walk by the Ohio

Sunday
We went to church this morning but didn’t stay for class today. In the afternoon we were going to a concert, an opera in fact by Queen City Opera, in which our church choral scholar tenor Matt was singing. Queen City Opera is an interesting organisation, founded in 2012
“to advance the careers of emerging singers, instrumentalists, designers, and conductors by giving them valuable professional engagements in high-quality productions.” They focus their productions on contemporary issues, and collaborate with other organizations to arrange workshops and discussions around these issues.
Today’s production was Beethoven’s Fidelio, a dramatic story about a woman who disguises herself as a man in order to get a job at a jail where her husband is being held as a political prisoner. It was presented in collaboration with Amnesty International and the Ohio Innocence Project, a organisation which works to free people who have been wrongfully imprisoned. The sets were quite minimalistic, and clothing modern day, but it was a very good production. In the evening, Laura had asked if we could try a new (to us) restaurant, that she’d heard of from a friend, an Argentinian restaurant called Che. We had made a booking for 8pm, so this gave us time for about an hour’s walk beside the Ohio river, which was very pleasant. Our seating at Che was outside in a lovely fenced in area, and it was a beautiful warm balmy evening. We really enjoyed the food, the drinks and the general ambiance, so we will definitely return some day. A lovely full day, even better in Laura’s company!
