A normal day in Scotland

While the rest of the UK appear to be in total partying mood for the Queens Platinum Jubilee it’s been a much more subdued affair in Scotland, certainly in the part where I live.

The only sign in our road of Jubilee celebrations was this union jack draped over a garden bench.
M is back as a volunteer guide at the Burrell museum in Glasgow and he said there was no indication there at all of the Jubilee celebrations. But then with a Scottish referendum on the horizon that is not surprising.

The Queen is held in considerable affection and respect in Scotland (more than can be said for certain members of the Royal family) but there is a groundswell of opinion that the monarchy and all its trappings and expense has outlived its usefulness and is irrelevant to a modern Scotland.

Meanwhile I have spent the day in the garden listening to Hay Festival online.
