Nicky and her Nikon

One happy dog

We all thoroughly enjoyed The Corn is Green at the National Theatre last night, Nicola Walker was her usual brilliant self and it was very cleverly staged with a narrator giving stage direction aloud during the play. If you wish to spot famous actors in London the best place to see them is at the theatre, as they too obviously love going to to the theatre. Nearly every time we go we see some famous faces - last night I stood next to the gorgeous OT Fagbenle (from The Handmaids tale) in the foyer while he was chatting to someone on his phone, and then Rafe Spall walked past us … a  starstruck moment!

This morning we were tired and so left later than we hoped, but there was no traffic and the roads were surprisingly clear. We stopped to get a coffee and then stopped again for me to photograph some poppies that were in a field on the side of the road (see extra). We arrived, unpacked and went straight to the beach for Xena to have a run around. She loves chasing her ball on the beach, her happy place. It was rather busy, not crazy busy like some coastal towns, but we are used to the beach being empty and today in the sunshine there were families and children everywhere, some even swimming in the cold water. We could not stay long as we had to get back for the supermarket delivery, which arrived on time and without any problems.

The sunshine outside was tempting us to go back to the beach but we were both drawn to watching the Trooping of Colour on TV. What a spectacle, and a glorious day for the troops to show off their finery in that sunshine. For those anti-royalists who keep citing how much the royal family cost us taxpayers - did you know that in 2021 the monarchy cost the taxpayer £87.5 million, but the Crown Estate contributed £269 million to the government - not a bad net return for the Exchequer.

Luke and Meriel arrived in time for a late lunch. We then had a long walk back to the beach, it was quite windy on the beach still warm. After we got back I started making supper, and after supper I went down to the harbour to photograph the sunset - it was not a spectacular one, but still pretty enough (see extra)

Now it is bed time and tomorrow more adventures await!
