Sgwarnog: In the Field

Sundew

Out at Sconce Crag, the small patch of Round-leaved Sundew is still going strong. It would be great to discover more elsewhere on the moor but I think people far more expert than me have been looking for longer.

The first orchid of the year was also on show (extra). I think I worked out last year that the earlier ones might be Marsh-orchid rather than Common Spotted-orchid. But then there is the difference between Northern and Southern Marsh-orchid with my patch being on the boundary between the known distribution of the two species. And they hybridise. So I probably just have to leave this to experts and be content that it is a nice orchid.
