Slippery When Frosty

The Taylor River narrowed and then roared through its confined space at the Ford as depicted in yesterday's blip. The floodwater then spread out over the river-bed and moved on downstream to the urban area.
Here it has swept through a delightful area known as Riverside Park where there are wooden decked walkways, landscaped gardens and steps up to the town centre. There is a nice little bridge crossing the river to access the other bank and a really popular eating place..the Raupo Cafe overlooks the river.
This area does get flooded a few times during the year and the Council made allowances for those events in the way the area has been planned. The riverbank and extensive park-like areas upstream are an official "floodway" in order to contain the high flow waters and prevent the inundation of downtown Blenheim.
The waters have started to recede and one can now see the tops of the wooden bollards which edge the wooden walkways.
I am always amused by the "Frosty When Slippery" sign when the park is inundated.
