Skimming

A day of sunshine and showers. During a sunny patch we walked into the village, watching swallows skim over the sea on the way. Then the heavens opened and it was a very brisk trot back to the house :-)

You might need to view the image large, as we weren't as close to the swooping swallows as I'd have liked.  I'll be back to that spot another day, but closer.

Last year, when we were here, I spent many enjoyable hours watching swallows swoop in and out of the garage of our holiday cottage; there was a great vantage point in the back yard. We were here in August, and I think the parents were feeding a second brood, racing to get them fit for September migration.

This year, the house owners have left the little upper window of the garage shut, so there isn't quite the high-speed, easy-access  thoroughfare that there was before. However, the birds have improvised another way in and there are at least a couple of nests. We can hear the frantic cheeping from inside, when a parent bird approaches.
