I grew up with The Beatles but by the early seventies teenagers like me were all into 'progressive rock.' Suddenly rock groups had members who could really play - Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson, Steve Howe et al. Sometimes these group's classical pretensions were a bit overblown, but some beautiful music was also produced. Who can forget Opera for Bedsprings (Web),The Return of the Giant Hogweed (Genisis) or Mother, My Trousers are on Fire by Placid Elastic.
