Definitely away from it all…

We’ve arrived at our holiday destination, which is Doune on the north west tip of the Knoydart peninsula. We drove to Mallaig to arrive for a 1745 departure (because of the tides). In fact, we set off earlier and got there in time for me to get very wet in a shower exploring the town briefly. The people who run the Doune Stone Lodges come to get you from Mallaig (and drop you back at the end of the week, obviously) and in between feed you, house you and take care of you generally. There’s even Wi-Fi - bounced across from Skye.

Others staying here were setting some pretty ambitious goals for the coming days, but as the weather looks uncertain, we’re only going to stay local initially. It was a very bouncy crossing from Mallaig, and Mr A in particular suffered acutely, although I cannot say I felt too good either. On the plus side, the setting is lovely with this view out of our window of the squally weather. And the food is excellent. A wonderful roast lamb last night. We’ll definitely have to do some decent walks to justify eating all of that food!

As they generate their own electricity, they don’t keep it on 24 hours a day, so by 11pm you need to be either in your bed, or relying on the battery powered storm lantern they leave in your room.
