Sir Elton's farewell tour - Sunderland

Today Jon had a long drive from Pickering where we are camped, to Sunderland where we had tickets to see Elton John in his 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road' tour. Our first and last opportunity to see him, and as it fell during our holiday, I had bought 2 tickets. Not cheap, but even though he was a small blur on the stage, they were still excellent seats. I can't image what those at the front paid, but I would guess at upwards of £ 300 each.

There really wasn't much to see or do in Sunderland, and it's not a place we will visit again unless there is a specific reason to, like today. It went smoothly, and was basically a lot of waiting around. We both brought our books and once in our seats, had 2 hours to wait before the show.

He was great, and the crowd lived him. At 75, not as nimble as Sir Cliff at 81, but I believe he has had a hip problem. Anyway an incredibly talented pianist and music maker. We loved it.

Just got back to our tent - 65 miles across the moors, so a 90 minute drive. Ready for my bed!
