Old Friends

We’ve known these two for nearly forty years, since I worked with them in Barclays Chester. We lost touch when I moved to Kendal, but met up again in 2014, when a chance blog entry of mine led to a couple of reunion parties for a load of us who had worked in the Chester branches in the 1980s.
After that, this little core group met up each year at Christmas for a meal, the last such occasion being December 2019. Little did we know then, it would be the last time we would see each other for over two and a half years. So it was a lovely surprise to get a message out of the blue suggesting a meet up soon. The fact that we would be in Chester the following week seemed too serendipitous an opportunity to pass up and we all met for a meal and a long overdue catch up tonight.
Having not eaten out at anything more exciting than McDonald’s for the past couple of years, it was nice to sit down to a properly cooked meal, though I am definitely not used to eating such large portions. Feeling very full now and probably won’t need to feed again for a couple of days!
Quite a bit has changed in all our lives since we last met. Some things good, some things not so good, but the important thing is that we have all survived the pandemic and are generally happy and healthy. A very pleasant evening with lots of laughter. The time just flew by but at least when we parted this time it was with firm plans in place to meet up again at Christmas, if not before.
Maybe it’s time to plan another reunion do and catch up with a few more people I’ve not seen for several years…
