Tale of Two Houses #2

Not quite as hot as yesterday, but still in the 90's. We finally relented and turned on the AC yesterday when the thermometer hit 102 outside. At least we have plenty of sun to make power! We were watching 'Don't Look Up' (Netflix) after dinner when the power went out. We were pleased that the solar battery kicked in immediately as it is designed to do.  It has enough power to keep the lights on and the fridge and the well pump running, but not the AC. I'm not sure why the TV didn't work. It should have. The power probably went out because everybody had their AC on and overloaded the grid. The notification from the  (lame) power company helpfully informed us that our power was out....

Sometimes I feel like we are living in a third world country....

When the TV went off, we were left hanging as a comet was hurtling toward the earth in a scathing satire that shows what happens if we wait too long to question our culture and ourselves, lose sight of the truth and fail to take action. It has a wonderful ensemble cast including Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo diCaprio who play low level scientists who must convince the President of the US (Meryl Streep) that the threat is real and there is no time to waste.

We'll watch the rest of it tonight, although the suspense has been interrupted and I think I have a pretty good idea what is going to happen. The movie got mixed reviews, but I thought it was well done, if uncomfortably close to the bone.

Too hot to go outside for a picture so I am documenting the progress on the houses on either side of us. They have finally started framing the one on the unbuildable site, and it looks a bit less fortress like, although the view up from the street is looming. They finished putting the siding on the house on the other side and it's been quiet over there for awhile. I think they are ready to finish the inside, but are waiting for something lost in the supply chain....I took the picture from our front steps, but it actually looks a lot better from the street. Maybe I'll document that for Tale of Two houses #3.

John's antibiotic finally kicked in and he got a much better night's sleep last night, but it has also kicked in with some predictable but unpleasant side effects.

We're both really tired....
