Execrable Art IV

Another sea day today, as we steam to our last port in Iceland.

So, another installment of Execrable Art.

The first oeuvre is a study in subtlety, I suppose you could say.  Having started out with the intention of portraying a wildly festive sunset festival in Fiji, the artist misjudged his paint supplies, and after applying a suitably bright and tropical primer coat, realized that the only other shade he had on hand was sooty charcoal black.  Oh dear.  So now all we are able to discern looks like the remains of something that caught fire and turned to ash at the bottom of a barbecue.  Or perhaps his toddler got into Mama’s makeup and experimented with mascara and eyeliner on Papa’s canvas?  Either way, the outcome was gloomy.

The second painting tells a sad tale.  Here we see the few passengers who managed to escape the sinking ship and crowd aboard a lifeboat.  Unfortunately, it was dark out, but the lifeboat came equipped with a couple of flashlights to aid in signaling any rescue ships.  The mood was temporarily lightened when Edith realized she’d managed to clamber aboard with her iPhone, so there might be a slim chance she could summon assistance … until she carelessly dropped it over the side.  Here we can see her at the stern, shining a light into the deep, dark sea in a doomed attempt to find it.
