The early bird

An early morning reed bunting.  This one is the female - the male has a black head.  I've included a shot of the male as an extra, just to illustrate the difference, but that shot was taken last week.

My RSPB field guide tells me that reed buntings are easy to find and identify in Summer.  But in my limited experience getting close enough to them to be able to take a reasonable picture of them without intervening reeds is not quite so easy as they don't seem to want to sit still and hang around for their portrait to be taken.  Of course, now that I've said that I can guarantee that I'll see loads of them next time I'm out, and they will be sitting still and posing...
