Costa del Thanet

Our annual cycle ride of 33 miles along the Viking Way. Absolutely sparkling weather, bright sun, sharp horizon, gentle, favourable breeze.

Well, not quite annual, we didn’t go in 2021. The last time was 4th August 2020: https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2737405932857197954

Starting from Reculver, fleeced by car park charges, uplifted by excellent coffee.

Passed Minnis Bay

Stopped at Westgate Bay for bacon sandwiches at the much changed West Bay Cafe

On past St Mildred’s Bay, Margate, Cliftonville to Botany Bay for a very enjoyable swim and to snap today’s blip of the famous stacks.

Past Kingsgate Bay, Joss Bay and past North Foreland to Broadstairs where we shared a scampi and chips at the Pavilion. Our usual haunt on the breakwater having gone upmarket from the beach cafe it was last time we were here.

No stopping after Broadstairs, passing Dumpton Gap, and Ramsgate until Pegwell Bay was reached and a welcome cup of tea at the Viking Cafe.

From there it was inland through Cliffsend, Minster, Monkton and St Nicholas at Wade and back to the coast trail to for the last few miles back to Reculver.

As is the tradition, a pint, a bag of Nobbies Nuts, a packet of Kent crisps and a high five marked the end of the ride.

This must rank as one of the best of days of the many we’ve had on the Viking Way: https://www.visitthanet.co.uk/attractions/viking-coastal-trail-2823/

Thank you for your concern and suggestions for managing the anniversary visit to London at the end of the month. I’m sure we’ll work something out!
