Annual blip of cricket on the Green

Very strong gusty winds caused the cancellation on Maidstone’s Arts Carnival and the Revival Concert in Mote Park. The cricket was not affected.

We walked into town for a coffee and a few things, then walked home. I went to the allotment only to pick some produce. On my way home I stopped to watch the cricket and got involved with a disabled old man in his broken down car.

Trying to get hold of the RAC through his phone was impossible. I used my phone and managed to get through filled in an online form only to be told that as his car was not taxed they wouldn’t come out. There was no way of trying to speak to a human. As is so often the case. We left him trying to contact a friend to help.

We went back later to see how he was, the battery was flat, someone had jump started it and he was just waiting for a bit of charge before leaving.

This just illustrates the unacceptable black hole we’re going down in customer service. All automated, all on your phone, no chance to speak to anyone. The old, the vulnerable, disabled, those without smart phones are cast aside and ignored in the rush to automate all processes.
