Red Underwing

This lovely red underwing moth flew in today. It's one of our largest British moths and its larvae feed on poplar and willow.

The gorgeous Gelderlander at the horse sanctuary was wearing very stylish fly protection. (Extras)

After taking MrQ to Epping to collect his new glasses, where Ollie dog loved sniffing the street, he and I have been wielding the extended chain saw in the garden cutting bits off a dead tree which was fouling our landline and internet cable. The technique we developed at the Ongar property where we supported the machine with the wheeled refuse bin stood us in good stead.
