Outer Hebrides

Thank you to DarkEyedMary for supplying the latest shot for our blipper-sourced collection of the locations mentioned in Lorna Lloyd's Diary of the war  (blipped at http://blipfoto.com/LornaL).

Lorna writes about the sinking of the SS Athenia in three of her early war diary entries on September 4th, 5th, and 6th 1939. You can hear these in Episode 1 of our podcast seriesDarkEyedMary notes that the boat sunk near Rockall, to the west of the Outer Hebrides. The photograph that she has provided for our journal was taken from the west coast of South Uist. St Kilda is just visible to the left of the shot, with the Monarch Isles more obviously in the middle. Rockall is too far away to see.

This is the fifth blipper-supplied location image for our journal. There are still another 121 places more to 'collect' to complete the set. If you would like to join in this challenge - and we hope you do - please check our the interactive map to see if you could supply a shot of one (or more) of the places around the world that Lorna wrote about in her diary.

Please send your contribution(s) to Hazel at h.hall@napier.ac.uk. Thank you!
