Song 12

Shopping this morning was a little different as it involved buying some things for our Eurovision party later in the day and a lot of the afternoon was taken up with preparing things.  PY always goes to town and we had cocktail menus, including a Ukrainian cocktail which has to be drunk in support of Ukraine when their song came on. It turned out that they were Song 12 of the day. We also has cupcakes decorated in some of the participant country’s colours and flag as well as an extended buffet and plenty to drink.

We did not want to do a big party again this year so a couple of friends came round to join in the concert which this year came from Turin, Italy.  We were song 22. Generally, I feel being later in the show is good as there is more change you’ll be remembered and so it was for the UK’s entry: Sam Ryder and Spaceman.  Apparently, he’s a Tic Tok sensation who was put forward as the UK entry.  In a remarkable turn of events for the UK, we came second to Ukraine. There was much cheering in the house (sorry, neighbours) when countries including Ukraine, Germany and France awarded is 12 points during the jury voting; although it was only Malta who warned us top markets from their televotes.
