A time for everything

A local walk

Wednesday July 20
Our flight had quite a tail wind, so we actually arrived in Manchester early at about 7.30, which was only 2.30 am our time, so needless to say we didn’t get much sleep! After the excessive heat of the last couple of days, it was quite a pleasant fresh morning in Manchester. Our luggage arrived safely, and after quite a wait for the bus to the rental car village, our rental car was waiting for us, and we were soon at Bernard’s, Roger’s Dad. After all the horror stories we’ve heard lately about flying - long lines, delayed flights, lost luggage etc. - we were amazed and very thankful for how well our journey had gone! Having let him know we had arrived safely, we went down the road to Janet and John’s house, where we are staying, to get a few hours sleep. We used to be able to get through the day and just go to bed early in the evening, but as we get older, that gets more difficult! The afternoon was dry so we went out for a local walk with Bernard on his mobility scooter - he can really walk very little now. There’s a lot of new house building going on in the area, and Bernard, having been a builder and decorator for much of his life, takes great interest in the new construction, noting how some things have changed over the years, and commenting on how good the brick work is! There’s a large network of footpaths around them, and we ended up in the adjacent village of Appleton Thorn, shown in my blip. After our walk, Roger and I went off to do some shopping, and I fixed dinner for the three of us in the evening - not as easy as it sounds where Bernard is concerned as he is a very picky eater, he won’t eat rice or pasta and can’t or won’t eat anything remotely spicy, won’t eat roast pork or pork chops ( though happily eats bacon or gammon!), so that rules out a lot of my usual recipes!
