One day at a time

Bridge

This footbridge, called the Deepdale Aqueduct or Silver Bridge (because of a long-gone paint scheme) crosses the River Tees just upstream from Barnard Castle. We use it a lot when we stay here, which is a couple of times most years.
It carries not only people but a large water pipe contained within the metal housing over the bridge.  It carried water from the reservoirs in the hills of County Durham to the industrial towns of Stockton and Middlesbrough.
I like symmetry so this jars a bit!
I also include in the extras a general view of the Castle and a couple of shots of a disused sluice gate mechanism. I love the engineering that went into making that winding gear.
