Reflections

A hall of distorting mirrors is something I'd usually associate with a fairground, but this was one section of the van Gogh Immersion Experience. Touring the country, the interactive exhibition/experience is currently in Bristol - a short train-ride from Weston-super-Mare. It was super, so I'm glad we took the opportunity to go.

I didn't take many photos as I was too busy enjoying the experience first hand, but this one had lights projecting detached heads of various flowers taken from van Gogh's paintings - sunflowers, of course, and Japanese blossom included among others.

Other parts of the hall (which I think was an empty warehouse), had various takes on paintings and portraits by the great man. Vases of flowers morphed from one into another. Birds flew from the cornfield, enlarged to the size of the main display space. Petals floated from trees and windmill sails turned within a painting. Steam surged from a moving train within another picture, breaking out to envelop all the walls. In this area were deckchairs where we could lie and immerse ourselves in the changing display of animated artwork.

A mix of tasters form my Extra, just to give you a flavour of the event, including a walk-in bedroom based on a series of same-subject paintings. None of my photos does the event justice - just the scale of the effects was amazing. If only Vincent had known how well loved his art would become!
