The panorama trail

We were expecting sunshine today however we woke up to rain, but thankfully it stopped raining by breakfast time. We were going to do a hike en famile today, but Luke, Meriel and Adam all needed to do a long run as part of their marathon training program and could not do both. So Adam, Gavin and I went up the mountain to the top station (2,297m elevation) where Adam went off for a run to the next highest point (2,693m) while Gavin and I took Xena for a hike along the panorama trail back down to the village at 1200m. When we stepped out of the gondola we were shocked to realise it was 2C up there and we were all freezing, including Xena! This entire holiday we have worn shorts and T shirts (why I bothered to pack so many clothes is an argument I always have with myself!), so today while we were in shorts and T shirts we did have a fleece top and and rain jacket which were very quickly put on for warmth.

We walked above the clouds for a while, and then as we descended we were walking through the clouds and it was damp with poor visibility. This image was taken when we were above the clouds, the trail goes past some characterful old barns - there is an extra too.

Adam said his run was awful, he was running through thick clouds most of the time, it was freezing cold and the altitude made it hard for him to breathe - but good training for his fitness which is why he chose to do it. Gavin and I walked quickly to keep warm but the steep descents were slippery so we had to be careful. We got back down to the village, nearly 10km later at a descent of around 1000m in 2.5 hours.

Luke had gone up another valley to do his long run, and he needed to do that run twice, up and down the valley and then up and down again, to achieve his necessary distance of 25km. Meriel went a slightly different route and ran 28km. They are both training to achieve good times in the marathon, but Adam is aiming for a comfortable run at a longer time.

Gavin and Adam then went off to play 18 holes of golf at the Davos Golf Club.

It rained most of the day and was quite cool, but now the sun has come out again and tomorrow promises to be warm and sunny once again.
