The Bumble that wasn't.

Walking through a clearing in a local woodland my attention was drawn to a different tone of buzzing.  It came from what at first glance looked like a large bumble bee.  Closer inspection of its head showed it was most likely a hoverfly but not like any that I had ever seen before.  I looked it up on my return and found it to be called Sericomyia Superbiens but no common name was given.  I am always pleased when I find something I haven't seen before.
