A red kite hunting over scrubby land

I spotted this kite from a distance and managed to get close to where it was hunting. It circled and then swooped down several times into scrubby growth on an unmanaged field. I saw it land and then rise up without prey in its talons. 

A little later it returned and I managed to see it through the drizzle flying only inches above the vegetation. I've added it as an 'Extra' even though it is a rather poor picture, just for the record.
